Call for papers: Human Rights and Peace in the New Asian Authoritarianism.

Due Date: April 15, 2020

The Journal of Human Rights and Peace Studies Volume 6.1 will include a special section on human rights and peace in an era of rising authoritarianism, increased skepticism, the return of Asian Values, and the rise of China as a regional hegemony. The rise of democratically elected governments which do not support human rights and rule of law have created crises in the region. Further, many values found originally in Asian Values from the 1990s have resurfaced, with governments arguing for a specific regional understanding of rights, or believing in the idea that rights can temporarily be given up while the government responds to security concerns. One example is China’s new interpretation of human rights which is currently being promoted at the United Nations.

Papers can address the increased challenges, for example in political rights and freedom of expression, in the promotion and protection of rights and peace, or explore the impact on democracy, the environment, and justice. Papers should focus or have relevance to the Asia Pacific (general South, Southeast, East and the Pacific).

The Journal of Human Rights and Peace Studies Volume 6.1 will also accept papers on human rights and peace for general publication.

Papers should be between 6,000-8,000 must be submitted by April 15, 2020. Instructions for submission are available at:
