Introduction
The international virtual conference on responding to a world in disorder: Emerging research in rights, politics and sustainable development aims to provide a platform for graduate students, researchers and others to contribute present and discuss research responding to emerging critical issues in Asia and beyond. The world faces severe political, environmental, technological, and social problems which are worsening. In many sectors, such as politics, development, and rights, research is critical to better understand these problems and how to respond to them.
The region faces increasing vulnerabilities such as new armed conflicts, exacerbated social and economic problems, democratic backsliding, increasing militarization, increase in conflicts, the threats posed by new technologies such as AI, heightening inequalities, and the rise of authoritarianism and populism. Marginalized and minority groups in particular face increased vulnerabilities and victimization.
Papers from a variety of sectors will address the numerous issues faced today, with a focus on Southeast Asia, and concerns around development, human rights, and democracy.
Themes and Sub-themes
The major themes of the conference revolve around politics, development, and human rights.
The papers presented in the conference were also divided into the following sub-themes:

Conference Format
The conference will be a one-day event in a hybrid format. Papers can be presented at Thap Prachan Campus Thammasat University, and online.
The proceedings will be peer-reviewed and published online.
Instructions for Presenters
To present at the Current Issues seminar presenters must submit the title of their paper and abstract to the conference organizers by June 8, 2025.
For the seminar students must do the following:
- Presenters must prepare a 15-minute (max) presentation.
- The presentation format will be panels of three to four papers (15 minutes each)
followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Panels will be 90-minutes long.
- Presentations must be on research findings, and not research proposals, of your
Thesis.
- Presenters will submit a paper of 2,500 – 3,000 words within two weeks of the presentation.

- Abstract in Word format of no more than 300 words.
