International Hybrid Conference on “Current Issues in Human Rights Research”

International Hybrid Conference on “Current Issues in Human Rights Research”

Proposed date: July 14, 2023

Introduction

The International Hybrid Conference on “Current Issues in Human Rights Research” aims to provide a platform for graduate students, researchers and others to contribute present and discuss research in the Post COVID era. The ambitions of “Build Back Better” held during the pandemic seem to not have been actualized. In many sectors, such as politics, development, and rights, it is business as usual as opposed to hopes of a better future.

The vulnerabilities exposed by the COVID pandemic remain: increased vulnerabilities faced by marginalized groups; exacerbated social and economic problems, democratic backsliding, increasing militarization, heightening inequalities, and the rise of authoritarianism and populism. These have directly impacted ways that research is undertaken.

Papers from a variety of sectors will address the numerous issues faced today, with a focus on Southeast Asia, and concerns around development, human rights, and democracy.
