During May 12-13, 2024, Assistant Professor Dr. Padtheera Narkurairattana, a Lecturer at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, and Chief of the Interfaith Buddy Project on Wavering Sustainable Peace from Community Roots, organized a public exhibition pilot in four provinces: Jana of Songkhla, Panare of Pattani, Mueang District of Yala, and Yigo of Narathiwat. Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand, Director of the Institute of Human Rights and Peace, delivered a Keynote Speech on “Peace and Justice from Community Roots to Sustainable Development,” along with Associate Professor Dr. Gothom Arya, a former member of the National Reconciliation Commission and current Advisor of the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, who gave a speech on “Friendship – the Heart of Sustainable Peace in the Deep South.”
On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Planning, Quality Development, and Academic Services, joined in to deliver policy advocacy to the Peace Committee, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, the Commander of the 4th Army Area, Consultant the Ecclesiastical Provincial Governor., President of the Provincial Islamic Committee, and gave an opening speech on “Mahidol Wisdom towards Sustainable Peace and Development” at the CS Pattani Hotel.
The exhibition showcased work on “Jana Model: the Interfaith Buddy Project on Sustainable Development for Peace,” “Panare Best-Buddy”, Tung Kha Junction: Interfaith Buddy for Peace,” and “Yupo: Friendship for Sustainable Peace.”
This event aims to drive policy advocacy and engagement towards sustainable peace and reconciliation based on friendship and tangible well-being to create a database and present news that complements peace and reconciliation from community roots.
The Interfaith Buddy Project on Wavering Sustainable Peace from Community Roots was funded by Mahidol University as a policy and social engagement project in 2023.
