On 13 – 14 August 2024, The Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies participated in the 6th International Conference on Human Rights, Peace, and Conflict in Southeast Asia, held in Penang, Malaysia. The conference, hosted by Universiti Sains Malaysia, was co-organized by SHAPE-SEA and supported by Sida. The conference was successfully conducted, with over 150 participants from across the region, facilitating fruitful discussions on various thematic issues.
The Institute’s lecturers attended the event, where they presented and moderated panels. The Institute also convenes a panel on “Human Rights and Peace Education: Opportunities, Dilemmas, and Prospects in Southeast Asia.” The panel was moderated by Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand, the director of the institute, and featured presentations by Asst.Prof. Dr. Duanghathai Buranajaroenki, Magnolia, and Asst.Prof. Dr. Padtheera Narkurairattana. Each panelist delivered insights on topics such as human rights education in Myanmar and teaching controversial history as a means to promote critical thinking and democratization.
