On September 11, 2024, the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University held a public seminar in honor of Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Satha-Anand and other leading figures in peace and well-being studies. The event marked a significant step forward for the university in its commitment to sustainable peacebuilding.
The seminar opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand, followed by a keynote address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mark Tamthai, an expert in peace studies and Vice President of the Committee of Strategic Peaceful Means. Dr. Tamthai’s speech, titled “The Role of Universities in Peacebuilding,” underscored the vital role that academic institutions play in fostering peace.
In a heartfelt moment, Dr. Tamthai also performed a guitar piece to honor the memory of two distinguished figures in peace studies, Prof. Dr. Johan Galtung and Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Satha-Anand. The event concluded with closing remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Planning, Quality Development, and Academic Services at Mahidol University, who outlined the next steps for the university in advancing peace and well-being.
