
On 30 May 2025, the Social Sciences Network of Mahidol University organized an academic seminar entitled “Higher Education and the Creation of Opportunities for Education and Learning toward Sustainable Development at Mahidol University” at the 2nd-floor conference room of the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University.
The event was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Sitthiwat Lertsiri, Vice President and Acting Director of the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies. An opening report was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Phanchada Siriwanbush, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The seminar was honored by the presence of Ms. Suchada Sang Taensap, Secretary to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, who delivered a keynote address on the topic “Higher Education and the Creation of Opportunities for Education and Learning toward Sustainable Development at Mahidol University.” The event was attended by university executives, faculty members, staff, and representatives from various sectors.
The panel discussion on “Creating Opportunities for Education and Learning toward Sustainable Development” was moderated by Dr. Praweenamai Baikloy and featured the following panelists:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Padtheera Narkurairattana, Acting Deputy Director for Administration, Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies
- Associate Professor Dr. Phanchada Siriwanbush, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
- Associate Professor Dr. Nantiya Duangphummes, Director, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia
- Assistant Professor Dr. Apivit Liang-issara, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts
- Associate Professor Dr. Nattawut Pimpa, Assistant Dean for Sustainable Development, College of Management
- Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Ketwongsa, Institute for Population and Social Research
The event was a collaborative effort by six social sciences-related entities at Mahidol University, namely: the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Institute for Population and Social Research, College of Management, and Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies.
The seminar aimed to serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences concerning the role of higher education institutions in creating educational opportunities. It also provided a valuable opportunity to disseminate academic works in the field of social sciences and foster concrete collaborations that align the university’s mission with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
