The Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP), in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Administration, Thammasat University; the Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS), Chulalongkorn University; the Global Campus of Human Rights Asia Pacific; the School of Social Innovation, Mae Fah Luang University; the Regional Centre for Sustainable Development, Chiang Mai University; and the Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) project, is organizing the International Hybrid Conference on the theme:
“Responding to a World in Disorder: Emerging Research in Rights, Politics and Sustainable Development.”
This conference provides a platform for graduate students, researchers, and other stakeholders to present and exchange knowledge and experiences on research that responds to pressing contemporary issues in Asia and beyond. These include intensifying challenges in politics, the environment, technology, and society. The event also explores strategies for responding effectively to these complex and dynamic developments.
The presented research plays a critical role in deepening the understanding of current global crises, especially those relating to development, human rights, and democracy—particularly within the Southeast Asian context and other global regions.
This year, the conference features over 80 research presentations covering Southeast Asia and other regions. As part of this regional academic gathering, SHAPE-SEA is hosting a series of expert discussions, a platform for scholars providing, advocating, and emerging practitioners to share research findings from SHAPE-SEA’s Research Grant Programme (RGP) and commissioned studies. These discussions are supported by a broader human rights and peace research community and will highlight regionally grounded, evidence-based work on environmental rights, human dignity, policy advocacy, and academic freedom. The event also promotes interdisciplinary and intergenerational exchange, bridging emerging scholars with experienced academics and activists. It aims to explore how collaborative research and education can meaningfully contribute to the advancement of human rights and peace amid ongoing global uncertainties.
