
March 7, 2025 – The Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University hosted an academic forum titled “The Role of Women in a Changing World, Democratic Decline, and Justice in Question” to mark International Women’s Day, which is observed annually on March 8. This year’s event took place at the Mahidol University Alumni Association Hall under Royal Patronage at Mahidol University, Salaya.
The forum was honored by the presence of Ms. Nara Paoin, Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Development at Mahidol University, who delivered the opening remarks and provided an overview of the event. Ms. Arocha Nantamontry, the Governor of Nakhon Pathom and the first female governor of the province, presided over the opening ceremony. In her speech, she shared her vision for the administration and development of Nakhon Pathom, urging Mahidol University to support initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for local residents through online platforms. The event also featured a keynote address by Assistant Professor Dr. Mueanmard Mukpradit, a feminist philosopher from Thammasat University, on the topic “Women’s Rights in a Changing World, Democratic Decline, and the Trump Regime.”
The event continued with an academic discussion titled “Women? Leaders in Crisis Management for a Just and Sustainable Society.” The panel featured distinguished speakers, including Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Strategic Planning, Quality Development, and Social Engagement at Mahidol University; Ms. Supatra Nacapew, a National Human Rights Commissioner; Dr. Vatchararuthai Boontinand, a lecturer at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University; and Ms. Sasinan Thamnithinan, a Member of Parliament. The session was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Nattawut Pimpa from the College of Management, Mahidol University.
March 8 has been designated by the United Nations as International Women’s Day, commemorating the social, political, and economic movements advocating for women’s rights. Recognizing the significance of gender equality, the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University organized this event to raise awareness of women’s rights and highlight their role as partners in sustainable development across all dimensions. The forum also served as a call to the Mahidol community to elevate the university’s role in empowering women to take on leadership roles in society, fostering justice, and promoting sustainable development.
