Public seminar on refugee rights titled “Myanmar Youth Defy Mandatory Conscription”

On April 24, 2024, the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University and the Institute for Population and Social Research co-organized a public seminar on refugee rights titled “Myanmar Youth Defy Mandatory Conscription”. The panelists for this occasion included Mr. Taw Zaw Latt, Senior Reporter from Mizzima News, who provided updates on the armed conflict situation in Myanmar; Dr. Sriprapha Petcharamesree, Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University, who spoke on Legal Obligations to the Refugees and the Role of Universities; Mr. Adisorn Kerdmongkol from the Migrant Working Group, who discussed Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar refugees in Thailand; and Mr. Tom Andrews, UN Special Rapporteur for Myanmar, who participated online to address the topic of Towards Achieving Peace in Myanmar. This session was moderated by Dr. Michael George Hayes, Lecturer at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, at the SEA Junction, Bangkok Art & Culture Centre.
