The curriculum structure is set in compliance with the Announcement of the Ministry of Education on the subject of Criteria and Standards of Graduate Studies B.E. 2558, PhD Degree, with Plan 1 and Plan 2 curriculum as below:

Course Description :

1) Required Courses                                                                                        

HPHP 601   Human Rights Theory   2 credits

Historical development of human rights concepts and contemporary debates in social science approaches to human rights; philosophical, legal and political considerations of human rights ideas; perspectives from and contributions to human rights studies within the Global South.

HPHP 602   Peace & Conflict Theory  2 credits

Historical and philosophical development of key peace and conflict theories and schools of thought; sociological and anthropological perspectives on peace, conflict, violence, nonviolence, conflict transformation and peacebuilding; emerging political trends and discourses on peace, conflict, development, security and human rights at regional and international levels.

HPHP 605   Critical Perspectives for Human Rights and Peace  2 credits

Concepts and theories of justice as related to human rights and peace; critiques of human rights from cultural relativist, post-modern and feminist perspectives; gender, conflicts and non-violence. Power dynamics, conflicts and human rights; links between development, human rights and peace.

HPHP 609   Research Seminar in Human Rights and Peace Studies  2 credits

Epistemology and ontology of human rights and peace research; constructivism, critical theory and legal positivism as major research paradigms; critical analysis of cross-cutting human rights and peace themes including citizenship, gender, identity as applied in research; analysis of human rights and peace research from a multidisciplinary perspective.

HPHP 608   Research Methods in Human Rights and Peace Studies  2 credits

Practical skills in peace and human rights studies; human rights and peace research design. Mixed methods research; formulation of research objectives and questions. Research tools, protocols and ethics for peace and human rights research;

participatory methods for human rights-based research.

HPHP 611   Human Rights Standards and Mechanisms  2 credits

Basic concepts of international law. Politics behind development of international human rights standards and mechanisms. Critical examination of international and regional human rights regimes. National implementation of international and regional human rights standards. Human rights and armed conflicts; International accountability for mass human rights crimes; International human rights law and law of war; State and non-state actors and obligations.

2) Dissertation

HPHP 898 Dissertation 48 credits

Formation of problem and research proposal; Review literature related; Data collection; Data processing; Data analysis and interpretation; Research report writing or dissertation; Presentation and publication of the research in the international peer-reviewed journals. Conducting research based on research ethics in all research processes
