Admission Requirements

Applications for the programmes, the M.A. and the Ph.D.  are carefully considered by the admissions committee, and decisions are made based on all aspects of the application requirements: academic standards, the strength of letters of reference, quality of the writing sample, and the statement of motivation. Consideration of the research interests of the applicant will be taken into account in order to ensure that students will receive sufficient support and guidance by faculty.

Application files are reviewed twice yearly by the admissions committee. The closing date for the first round of applications is end of January and the second round is end of April for the academic year beginning in August.  Prospective students are strongly encouraged to apply for each deadline of round is the end of month, in order to allow time to arrange financial support for study. Complete application files, with all required documents, must be received before these dates to be considered for admittance to the programmes.

Application Requirements for the M.A. (Thai Programme)
In order to be eligible for the Master of Art (Thai Programme), applicants must:

1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field, with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (or the equivalent)
2. Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of not less than 470 or a TOEFL Computer – based score of not less than 150  or a TOEFL Internet – based  score of not less than 52 or an IELTS of at least 4.5, or pass the English Proficiency Test arrange by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University
3. For foreigner, good skills of Thai language are required.


Application Requirements for the M.A. (International Programme)
In order to be eligible for the Master of Art (International Programme), applicants must:

1.Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field, with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (or the equivalent)
2.Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of not less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arrange by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University

Required Documents:

2) Personal Statement

3) Academic transcript(s) BA and Academic Certificate(s) BA

4) English Language Test Certificate(s) (if any)

5) Curriculum Vitae

6) Reference(s) form


Application Requirements for the APMA

    In order to be eligible for the MHRD applicants must:
    1.Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field, with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (or the equivalent)
    2.Have English language proficiency, with an IELTS 6.0, which is equivalent to at least a 500 TOEFL PBT or a TOELF iBT score of 61. Or have graduated from a degree with English as the language of instruction within the last five years.

    Relevant practical experience in the area of human rights and/or democracy or a related field is desirable but not required.

    All applicants must also include the following documentation to be considered for a scholarship:

    Application Requirements for the Ph.D. (International Programme)

    Plan 1 : Research Only

    (1) Graduated with a Master’s degree in any major from a recognized university

    (2) Have a grade point average of at least 3.00

    (3) Have publications in English in internationally recognized journal(s)/ publication(s).

    (4) Have a clearly defined and complete thesis plan, which is accepted as suitable to the Ph.D. level by the committee of the Ph.D. Program.

    (5). Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of no less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arranged by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University

    (6) Exceptions from the above requirements may be made by the Program Committees.

    Plan 2 : Courses and Dissertation

    (1) Graduated with a Master’s degree in any major from a recognized university

    (2) Have a grade point average of at least 3.00

    (3) Have a clearly defined and complete thesis plan, which is accepted as suitable to the Ph.D. level by the committee of the Ph.D. Program.

    (4). Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of no less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arranged by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University

    (5) Exceptions from the above requirements may be made by the program Committees.
